MEDITERRANEO (1991) **1/2 In World War II these Italian guys get sent off to occupy a Greek island. Nothing much happens until the British blow up their boat, stranding them. Nothing much happens until a few years later when they learn that Italy has changed teams. This has no effect whatsoever on their "occupation," nor was it affected when a dope-smoking moron Turk stole all their guns. Then the war is over. The location is spectacular and shot to great effect, the pace pleasant and relaxed, the insights into love and war and patriotism real. The most gung ho Italian of the lot ends up back on the island when they don't let him change Italy. Everyone is very tan.
