THE MOD SQUAD (1999) *1/2 Series of SoCal music videos strung together for the MTV generation. Some of the selections are tasteful (Traffic) and others humorous ("Car Wash"), and there are several dance sequences thrown in for comic relief. None of them are all that funny, but the film never gains anything resembling critical mass as a drama so any relief is fine. Omar Epps has great emoting eyes for these quiet rolls that don't require him to say much. It's kind of cool how they leave some plot threads hanging (probably unintentionally but they hired good technical people) by the middle of the film, life's like that.
