MOULIN ROUGE (1952) *** A magical time in an incredible Paris full of unbelievable talent. Toulouse-Lautrec describes his own best ability as that of being able to drink formidable quantities of cognac, and anything else. Misshapen and loaded he falls in love with the wrong one and doesn't fall for the right one, insults gloriously, catches the spirit of the time (chicks in big garter pajama underwear, with their legs held high), and sleeps it off during his grand exhibition. Some creative editing and excellent musical selections help make it real, along with the well cast nuts.
