MURDER, SHE WROTE: DEATH STALKS THE BIG TOP (1986) ** In which Angela Lansbury finds it easier to demonstrate, than explain, that any Beltway blue blood with a brain in their head should immediately run off and join the circus. Important advice that has, sadly, failed to generate the intended exodus. Unless, of course, you define "circus" metaphorically, in which they were already there. How can you expect them to run away from where they already are? Or is that the tertiary level of meaning? Is Angela really the high priestess of an esoteric sect that worships at the altar of Freudian symbolism? Feature length (glued-together two-parter) we're treated to more than one murder-which is pleasant since there was always way more than one victim who really deserved it. They also go out of their way to give us more than the usual handful of suspects. The guest stars aren't particularly notable, with the exception of Alex Cord. Will someone please cast that man in Shakespeare, immediately! Opposite Don Knotts, or Paul Lynde. Yet another enjoyable Jessica Fletcher mystery that won't make you feel guilty for falling asleep, or punish you too inordinately if you fail.
