MYSTERY TRAIN (1989) *1/2 Screamin Jay Hawkins eyebrows! That's all. Everything else is essentially both dull and pointless. Nothing happens, which is slightly odd to say about a film inhabited by Elvis' ghost and in which a liquor store attendant is shot by Joe Strummer. It goes on and on, and goes nowhere, and the train goes by. You'd have to have tried very very hard to get a B- in Existentialism to get much out of this one. Nicoletta Braschi is a very winsome and wonderful presence even when Benigni (sadly absent here) isn't falling madly in love with her, but it's much better when he is. Jarmusch gets some really cool shots but they appear in the midst of textbook-energy, the milieu of the pointless.
