NATE AND HAYES (1983) * The problem isn't so much that they may be simultaneously trying to make another installment of Indiana Jones, Treasure Island, and a documentary on how all strata of society can be both bad and boring; but that it seems entirely possible that they've never even heard of any of those tales or concepts. How did Tommy Lee Jones ever get work after this? I mean, even with hair, he's no better than a construction worker lady's conception of a Chippendale's dancer. And his southern drawl is the only good part of his performance. On the other hand, he's by far the most compelling actor in the film. Jenny Seagrove and Michael O'Keefe openly compete with one another as to who can deliver their lines with the least coherence and conviction. O'Keefe wins fairly easily, but the level of competition is impressively low. You just want it to end, but it's one of those films where they flashback from a prison scene...so you would think that they'll have to work back to it and offer resolution. The only good news is that in a film this bad they might entirely forget to.
