NED KELLY (1970) *1/2 It should have been historic casting-Mick Jagger as Ned Kelly the Australian horse thief turned revolutionary (at least in the early artistic Mick incarnation). Unfortunately Mick was able to summon none of the sinister or menacing presence that he invoked so effortlessly on stage, the best of his acting is in feigning an Irish-Australian farmboy awkwardness in sharp contrast to his own innate elegance. There's a good scene where the cops get mad because he's singing illegal music. All-star country soundtrack has Mick, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson singing mediocre but appropriate narrative songs of Shel Silverstein.
