OFFICIAL DENIAL (1994) *1/2 At least they didn't name it "Plausible Denial," for there's nothing plausible about it, even to UFO-believing, goverment distrusting cynic/gullibles like myself. Erin Gray wants a baby and offers to make it worth Parker Stevenson's while. He is more interested in bald, plastic-looking space creatures (you know the ones, there's nothing original here). Problems ensue, the government gets involved and lies to everyone, the space creatures are gentle and psychic, the Indians wise and insightful without saying anything, there's a great photo montage including Saddam Hussein and Exxon (what's that they were saying about knowing the future?)...somehow they forgot to put in the car chase. All other genre bases are covered though. The simply drawn characters are saved in the cases of Gray and Dirk Benedict by appealing and ridiculous performances, respectively. It's all hokey, but entertaining enough. You get the feel that the scriptwriters probably push print, then immediately set about writing another one, it's got that feel of instant decaf finesse. Not great art then, but Stevenson is at least moving up in the art world-from Shaun Cassidy to Erin Gray in only two decades! The future may be every bit as bright as they want us to believe...
