AT WAR WITH THE ARMY (1950) ** I don't think that much thought was given to the plot, which shouldn't be fatal to a Jerry Lewis & Dean Martin flick. The problem is that there isn't much enthusiasm to it, either. Some of Jerry's bits are very funny (the Marlene Dietrich, and the jazzy neck dance), and it's like always, he doesn't let ten seconds go by without trying to be entertaining, which amuses some people who aren't even French. Dean's stuff is all too understated, and when he tries to sing seriously it's very out of place. Some of the skits, listlessly incorporated into the plot, are excruciatingly dull, so there are regular opportunities to get up and go get a snack.
