ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS (1957) ** Mutations caused by nuclear testing and other borrowed concepts, eerie music, abysmal acting...that young Roger Corman blade is at it again. Given what it is, which is pretty much what it's supposed to be, and the attendant realities, it's not all that bad, really. It's not good, at all, but it's entertaining enough in a pedestrian creature feature way. Corman doesn't tease you, he let's you check out the crab right away, and the portion of the format where they plug in the esoteric science schlock is even more imaginative than usual. That takes about thirty seconds, as does the single genre classic scene, when the giant crab attacks the brains while speaking in an automated-sounding voice of the recently deceased that now (partially, I think it's a timeshare or something) inhabits it. The timeshare is far from the only loose end dangling when the credits somewhat randomly begin to roll, but you're even thicker than the lot Corman was courting if you think that's actually a problem in a flick like this.
