BILL & TED'S BOGUS JOURNEY (1991) ** It's not that there's no fun in it at all, just that it's starting to feel a little bit more like a franchise, a little bit like a con. I mean, Bill and Ted visit the dark side? I'm not sure what that's worth as a concept, but definitely not an entire film. Parts of it are still clever, and more than that is admirably juvenile, but there's just not any of the unbridled joy that made Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure so cool. In fact the best parts of the film are when someone else cool shows up to distract you from the proceedings, and at least that happens: George Carlin and Taj Mahal. I think that human brains are less limited than we think, but also that some are more limited than others, and young masters Bill and Ted have just about exhausted what they can figure out to do with time- and transdimensional-travel. Better to settle down with a babe and a beverage, dude, and leave all that science stuff to those other dudes.
