THE CEMETERY CLUB (1993) **1/2 Light fare about the struggles of three Jewish widows who mainly disagree on how often to go to the cemetery isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me. Olympia Dukakis is as droll and disagreeable as you'd hope as the right wing of the trio, and Ellyn Burstyn carries things nicely as the centerfold, I mean centerpiece. Danny Aiello is probably best of all, who'd'a thunk he had so much leading man in him? Tries to say a lot of things in passing that could have been said more effectively in a novel, but it would be wrong to say that it was ineffective, and what gets done gets done without the schmaltz or manipulation you might expect.
