CHARLOTTE 'S WEB 2: WILBUR'S GREAT ADVENTURE (2003) *1/2 Unlike most people who consider themselves fairly bright, I have mixed feelings about add-ons to the great stories. I'm not entirely against it. I mean, obviously, for example, Ghostbusters scaled heights unprecedented in moving-picture history, but I also enjoyed Ghostbusters II and even the cartoon spin-offs, at least one of which had damn near nothing to do with the original. The good news here is that they don't dabble in the teleological suspension of the rational by assuring us that Charlotte is still alive, the bad news being that they don't have any interesting character(s) to replace her. The first half mimics the original storyline, and the second half makes you nostalgic for the first. It's not all that bad, though, for young ones bright enough to have enjoyed the original, and age-appropriate enough not to have developed into cynical critics.
