COTTAGE TO LET (1941) ** First of all, there isn't any cottage for rent. They say there is, but there's not. That's fine. Then it turns out that a good guy/mad scientist is working on secret weapons to use against the Nazis. Well, that's alright then. He fears that he's surrounded by all kinds of secret agent types, but leaves the laboratory unlocked all the time anyway. Well, surely even Nazis must have some sense of decency, right? Well, or is it Scotland Yard mucking about. Reasonably well done mystery, made more entertaining by the irregular appearances of Jeanne De Casilis. The real question for contemporary viewers is probably along the lines of: Did they telegraph the bad guys by making them irritating, or did they-even then-have some sense of respect for the intuitive prowess of the audience?
