THE FOUR DEUCES (1976) *1/2 Jack Palance wanders around asking people if they know what he means, and if they get the picture. They should, there's not much to get. It's like a (or maybe is) gangster movie made by gangsters, but the ones at the bottom of the food chain who have no idea what's really going on. So they mainly have the bosses running back and forth setting fire to each other's nightclubs, unlavishly presented with Dick Tracy comic-strip pretensions. Now, comic book pretensions are more easily fabricated than, for example, metaphysical ones, and so the bits of the action that trade on Batman cartoons work pretty good. Jack Palance is a better actor, and far more intimidating, waiting in line for a cup of coffee. You know what I mean?
