FROSTY RETURNS (1992) ** At least the first half of the script is more clever than the original. Jonathan Winters and John Goodman are having a fine time trying to outdo each other, and gently mocking everything else...then things inexplicably just get stuck in a song that isn't all that great. Nothing to get upset about, it careens along in a silly enough manner, it just doesn't deliver on all of the promise of the opening fifteen minutes. I probably prefer this sequel, as it's a good deal more developed, but wouldn't offer argument against those who insist that Frosty the Snowman had a soul that isn't entirely apparent here. It's also fair to say that complexity isn't really what made Frosty work in the first place, either. At least they didn't burst entirely into the pseudo-existentialist rant that's at least contemplated, but I'm not sure that would have been a bad thing, either.
