GONE FISHIN' (1997) *1/2 Danny Glover and Joe Pesci used to like fishin' when they were little kids, and now they're older and they still do. They used to get into seemingly disassociated trouble when they went fishin', not entirely their fault, and they still do. There's not a lot more to it than that. It's not awful, but Pesci plays his relatively "normal" character too effectively. There's just not any evidence of either genius or extreme lunacy, which are what you look for in Pesci's performance and characters, respectively. Willie Nelson is pretty good as the mysterious guru guy, but I have to say that Waylon Jennings did even better with the same kind of character in a "Married, With Children" episode. Saddest of all is the fact that Christopher Cain couldn't even find room to allow Carol Kane or Rosanna Arquette to liven things up much. It's not a movie that you'll hate yourself for wasting time watching, but partly because you're unlikely to remember much about it even ten minutes later.
