JUST MY LUCK (1957) ** There are some very funny scenes when Norman Wisdom gets pathological (the movie theatre!), but somewhere along the line they try to keep to a hackneyed plot and let all the air out of it. Some of it catches back up at the end, when it's ended particularly abruptly. Oh, sure, there are bits around the edge of the formula that are funny, too--the mom and the elephant and the crazy lady, all of which might have been most effective if played by the same actress. But they don't, and as radically shambolic as it must have struck everyone back in '57, comedians since have played better hands with these cards. Not without taking note of what worked about the way Norman played 'em, I figure. My main question is: How can he be so taken with Jill Dixon when Delphi Lawrence is in the picture. I don't think that's supposed to be part of the joke, or social commentary, but it should be.
