THE KILLER TOMATOES STRIKE BACK (1990) ** I don't know how anyone can take these movies seriously. No, no, I know, I just wanted to say it. The cachet of ignorance manifest delusionally. Hey, everybody has to work with somethin'. What they're working with here appears to be bad jokes, the nearly inevitable result of low-grade marijuana. No, no, they might just be like that. John Astin lends dignity to the affair, to the extent that it is accepted. Oh, that's not fair, it's not that badly done, is it? Well, no, not actually. J. Stephen Peace and Cystal Carson put everything into the receptacle of their roles that could likely be indulged. He, the master of every absolutely useless skill (juggling, chest hair), she the mistress of her own plastic face. They bob about throughout, and it never gets too slow. I'm surprised that I've never read how these Tomato movies imitate the stylings of Ed Wood in the sense that you'll never have the pleasure of seeing these people in anyone else's film. Of course it wasn't Wood himself who invented this particular blueprint, but Avo the Arrogant of ancient Sumeria. But I digress. Anyone who can't laugh at the tomatoes probably needs more therapy than anyone who can't stop. The legend is that Avo laughed himself into an entirely nuther state of Existenz, but most reports are to the effect that he was really into slugs and chipmunks.
