RUDOLPH, THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (1964) **1/2 Suspicious folkie Burl Ives narrates a tale (probably a lie) about a deer with a communist nose who meets a guy with a red beard, with whom he formulates a plot about how they can help the “big man” in the red suit. Oh, what won't those commies do to subvert our children!? It's all about how nonconformity is acceptable, and working together and respecting one another is good, and all that commie rot. Oh, the horror. It's definitely better than the pinnacle of my own stage career, though, when I was Rudolph in the 7th grade school play and entered stage right and my right antler promptly fell down. Trying to fix it, I knocked the left one down. Actually, my performance was fairly well received, come to think about it, in a “ha ha” sort of way. Merry Christmas (any time, anywhere)!
