SNOWBEAST (1977) ** Jaws in snow, except that the main point appears to be to give us important tips about color coordinating ski accessories. Big crowds are in town, tourist season, people get eaten by a monster, irresponsible adults won't admit it, they kill a different one and declare victory...even the beast's theme music is an obvious rip-off of the shark. On the other hand, Jaws was megacool, so this must at least be a little bit cool. Maybe, a little bit, it's pretty funny when Bigfoot storms the ski prom, or whatever it is. I would have liked more shots of the monster, though, it looks really cheesy. Yvette Mimieux (is that the all-time champion sorority name, or what) and Bo Svensson (Mr. Flannel) are a relatively amusing couple, and not entirely because of their absonant names. To make matters even better, they have Robert Logan lurking around, wearing bathrobes with high collars and desperately trying to be casual. His casual cover is largely blown by the fact that he starts yelling whenever he's not talking to his grandmother, in which case he is entirely obsequious. It looks pretty fun, dramatically pulling a snowmobile into a resort parking lot, with crowds of people awaiting the big news.
