TOY STORY (1995) ** The general idea, of a film that follows the pathology of a kid playing, or animated toys battling their demons across the backdrop of birthday and moving day...that's pretty good. The problem is that the kid in question has bad breath, otherwise smells, and is one of those kids who can't get going until he thinks of something disgusting. So it goes on with this cool Pixar animation, characters who deserve more love and attention than they receive from their big movie star voices (Annie Potts excepted), just bumping into bad shadows and walls. Kids like to root for someone, that have that Manichean perception of reality, and so when the best of the young mystics looks at the screen there's nobody there. Nice show, neh? Hopefully the popcorn isn't burned.
