THE WACKIEST WAGON TRAIN IN THE WEST (1976) *1/2 A very obvious rip-off of “Gilligan's Island ” slapped onto a kinda wild west backdrop. Bob Denver reprises Gillian-now named something else-and inferior actors step in for each of the other principals (rich couple, glamour girl, homespun girl, etc.). This is not to say that if you enjoyed Gilligan's you'll enjoy this. No, Gilligan's was clever and this isn't. They try firing gag-a-minute at you for awhile, then apparently run out of even low grade ammo. It turns out that what happened is that this was a different tv show, but since no one noticed it they cobbled three episodes into this full-length feature. I wonder what they were trying to do with those last two episodes. It's mildly entertaining on some level to see just how stupid Denver can pretend to be, but you can probably get a more potent charge of the same sort of thrill watching Fox News coverage of a White house press conference.
