THE YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS (1974) *** Essential Christmas viewing. It's a good looking but fairly middlin' production with songs that are outstanding, in an unobtrusively schmaltzy vein. Everything, however, even Christmas, is saved by the heroically egocentric Miser Brothers. Mr. Heat Miser and Mr. Freeze Miser, singing variations of the same self-aggrandizing song, but refusing to employ their powers with synchronicity. Enter two scheming females, Mrs. Santa Claus and Mother Nature. Absolutely joyous.
